St. Mary’s Academy is Denver’s premier independent, Catholic coeducational Pre-K to 8 and all-girls High School. Established in Colorado Territory by the Sisters of Loretto, we continue to be a forward-thinking educational leader focused on developing the whole child through rigorous and engaging academics, outstanding sports, fine arts and performing arts programs, integrated service learning, and individualized attention.

Since our beginnings, we have welcomed students of every culture, religious tradition, and economic background. We are a school that puts faith beliefs and spirituality into action, and we encourage students to love, accept, and treat others with respect. Theological studies, religion classes, prayer services, holiday masses and celebrations, and Living Loretto lessons form strong foundations and deeper understandings of others and of ourselves in a multicultural and multireligious world. We have a rich history of involvement in diversity, equity and inclusion, such as our longstanding Diversity Club, student and faculty attendance at DEI conferences, affinity groups in the Middle School and High School, and a dedicated trainer to foster brave spaces for listening and mutual understanding. We support the mission of the Loretto Community to stand for justice and act for peace.

Our Loretto School Values of faith, community, justice and respect guide us in our work. St. Mary’s Academy is a service learning school, where learners of all ages lead with purpose and from their strengths, becoming part of something larger than themselves. Lower School grades lead collection drives. Middle School Community Action Teams perform service in the community, and High School students perform 100 hours of service over four years with connected, reflective coursework. Students learn leadership in dozens of clubs and organizations on campus. In addition, student mentors and student tutors cross our quad to join in inspiring and enriching configurations. SMA students are kind, compassionate, and empowered individuals. Parent volunteers are also a welcome part of the community.

STEAM programs across St. Mary’s Academy cultivate higher-order thinking, problem-solving, and design-based thinking skills. Interdisciplinary humanities courses promote critical-thinking and writing skills. Sequenced computer science is part of the Lower School, Middle School, and High School programs, including robotics, design-and-build challenges with supercomputers and 3d printers, and AP Computer Science courses. SMA students learn how to think and embrace challenges, preparing to lead in an ever-changing world. SMA is the proud home of the 2021 Colorado Mock Trial Champions, World Affairs Challenge Champions, and Destination Imagination Global Finalists.

SMA is committed to whole child wellness. Our wellness program includes two full-time counselors, a guest expert trainer for the SMA community on mental health, lessons in digital wellness, and the Sources of Strength suicide prevention program and Mental Health Awareness Day in in the High School. PE is regularly offered, along with ACIS League sports in Middle School and the 3A Metro League in High School, where 3 out of 4 students participate in CHSAA sports. St. Mary’s Academy won the state golf championship in 2021, and many sports headed to state qualifiers. Our student-athletes excel on and off the field. Dozens are named to All-Conference Teams, and 95% of SMA’s junior and senior athletes earned CHSAA All-State Academic Honors in 2021. Go Wildcats!
